a traditional country pub

Welcome

to our pub

nestled in the charming village of east harptree

The Castle of Comfort is a beautiful, country pub with a cosy atmosphere and full of traditional features throughout.

We pride ourselves on serving tasty, home cooked food sourced from local butchers with beers and ciders from Butcombe and Thatcher’s Breweries plus a weekly guest Ale and a rough Cider.

The Castle of Comfort is a curious name for a pub on top of The Mendips, but it is believed to have earned it’s name for providing refreshments to prisoners travelling from Wells Jail to Gibbets Brow, where they were due to be hanged in the region of the notorious “Hanging” Judge Jeferies.

Pop in and enjoy all our beautiful pub has to offer – we would love to welcome you.
